Environmental Law Handbook

The National Environment Management Authority, The United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP), The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) and Greenwatch would like to acknowledge the
contribution of Kenneth Kakuru, Phillip Karugaba, (Environmental Advocates), Carl Bruch and John
Pendergrass of ELI, Professor John Okidi of Nairobi, Robert Wabunoha and Charles Akol of
NEMA, John Ntambirweki, Godber Tumushabe, Cornelia Kakooza-Sabiiti, Vincent Wagona of the
Directorate of Public Prosecution, for their contribution in providing and writing papers on the
various areas of the practice in environmental law. Without their contributions, it would not be
possible to prepare this Handbook.

Special acknowledgement is also made to the Judicial Training Programme headed by Justice J.W.N.
Tsekooko, Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda and Chairman Judicial Training Committee and
further Justice Constance Byamugisha, Justice of the Court of Appeal of Uganda, Justice Opio
Aweri, Judge of the High Court of Uganda, Justice Jeremiah Herbert Ntabgoba formerly the
Principal Judge, for the support and encouragement that was given during the various training
sessions of the judiciary that have been held in Uganda over the years. The support enabled and
encouraged the authors of the various chapters in this Handbook to provide more materials to the
judiciary on environmental law.

Special mention is made of the dedicated teamwork of Mr. Kenneth Kakuru, Ms. Sarah Naigaga,
Mrs. Irene K. Ssekyana, Ms. Harriet Bibangambah, Ms. Harriet Kezaabu and Ms. Rachel Kirabo of
Greenwatch for their innovative ideas in preparation of this Handbook.
